Millions of seniors in America are working full time, but they’re not working in an office or a factory, and they’re not receiving paychecks. Instead, they are working full time in their own homes, caring for a aging family member.

According to a Johns Hopkins University study, family members ages 65 to 74 years are working more than 30 hours a week to care for their loved ones, and those 75 years or older are providing nearly 35 hours a week of caregiver services.

Providing care for a senior is emotionally and physically difficult work for anyone, but it can be especially challenging for older adults. Moreover, according to the Administration on Aging, approximately one third of these senior caregivers are in fair to poor health themselves.

If this full time schedule is becoming too much for your family, ASSI can help. Our homecare and adult daycare / companion services can be used to supplement your efforts, giving the aging senior the assistance they need, while giving their caregiver time to rest and rejuvenate.

Call Today to learn more about ASSI’s caregiver services.

Customer service. It’s so important, but seems so rare these days. At American Senior Services, Inc., we know that our clients call us during difficult times when they or a loved one urgently needs homecare or adult daycare / companion services. We take that responsibility seriously, and we do our best to place a reliable, trusted caregiver in the home faster than any other provider.

Our clients often write to us to let us know how we performed for them. One of our clients said: “I needed service for the next day; he took care of everything that day. This is a great agent for me, he really helped a lot.”

Another wrote: “It was so easy to use my program. All I had to do was call.” And still another said, “I am very comforted to have the kind of service that was available to me both now and possibly in the future.”

You can read more of our client Testimonials here. If this is the kind of customer service you’re looking for in a company that provides the most viable and dependable alternative to traditional home healthcare, we hope you’ll Call Us today.

Since 1990, the number of centenarians, (people aged 100-plus) has doubled. Pretty amazing, but that’s just the beginning of the centenarian boom. By 2050, it is projected that there will be 31 centenarians for every one centenarian alive in 1990.

And if you live in certain mid-western states, your chances of knowing or caring for a centenarian increase, too. Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Mississippi and Kansas have the highest concentrations of people aged 100 or older.

Fortunately, ASSI’s True Freedom Membership Plans are available in all of these states and 33 more across the country. We’re dedicated to providing the most viable and dependable alternative to traditional home healthcare. We provide true guaranteed, hassle-free acceptance, so whether you’re 65 or 105, we have a plan that can meet your needs. Call Us today.

A study by University of Michigan researchers found that nearly 60 percent of seniors ages 70-plus experience some form of loneliness, and it’s affecting their mental health and well being. According to the study, about 22 percent of those surveyed were emotionally lonely, missing close companionship, and about 16 percent were socially lonely, feeling like they didn’t really have anyone to talk to in times of need. A full 19 percent felt completely isolated.

Many of these seniors have family in their lives, but the study showed that it was friends, not family members, who cured the loneliness and provided the type of interaction that made seniors feel emotionally healthy and independent.

ASSI’s True Freedom Membership Plans are designed to address this fundamental need for companionship. Every ASSI plan includes hours for home care services like personal assistance with bathing, meal preparation, and medication reminders. But, every plan also includes hours dedicated to companion services like reading the newspaper together, playing board games, or just discussing the day’s events.

Our caregivers work hard to create a true, personal bond with the seniors in their care. It’s our goal to fight loneliness and create an emotionally healthy and secure environment in the senior’s home.

If you know a senior who could benefit from ASSI’s home care and adult daycare / companion services, Contact Us today to learn more.

Recently, Christina Pinto, a certified financial planner with MPC Wealth Management, told Fox Business, “It takes decades to accumulate the assets you’ll need to retire comfortably and just a few years of paying for [high medical and long-term care] costs may threaten a lifetime of savings . . . One year of [full-time, long-term] care today in a nursing home is $75,000. In 30 years, it will cost $250,000.”

The personal finance article goes on to provide tips for preparing your long-term care financial plan, like setting up a Health Savings Account, contributing to a Flexible Spending Account, and investing in your IRA or 401k. At ASSI, we’d like to make one more suggestion – research reliable, proven alternatives to long-term care insurance!

American Senior Services, Inc. (ASSI) offers the most viable and dependable alternative to traditional home healthcare. With true guaranteed, hassle-free acceptance, 72-hour response to in-home care requests, and highly qualified care professionals, ASSI is a trusted service provider that successfully serves thousands of seniors in 38 states through a commitment to integrity and financial responsibility.

According to the National Nursing Home Survey, the rate of individuals age 65 years and older who chose nursing home care has declined 35% between 1984 and 2004.
At ASSI, we’re proud to be a part of this trend! Our membership plan, True Freedom, provides seniors with the freedom to live in the comfort of their own homes. Understanding all of the options available, from nursing home care to long term care insurance to home care plans, can be confusing, and I’m always happy to explain the many benefits a service contract or membership plan like ASSI’s True Freedom plan, can offer to seniors who want to continue to live in their own homes.

In Indiana, there is currently a bill before Governor Mitch Daniels requiring that seniors in the state be told all their options for long-term care when they’re being discharged from a hospital. The legislation comes in response to the growing number of seniors who want alternatives to nursing home care.

According to Rep. Suzanne Crouch, R-Evansville, who authored the bill, most people don’t want to go to a nursing home.

She recently told Public News Service: “When you ask elderly people, ‘If you can stay in your home, would that be the best option?’, 80 percent of them will say yes. They would love to stay in their homes. They want to stay in their homes.”(Read the full article here).

We couldn’t agree more! We believe that it’s critically important for seniors and their families to know all of their options including home care and adult companionship / daycare services. With home care specialists available in Indiana and throughout the country, ASSI can provide professional, affordable membership plans that keep seniors safe and happy in their homes. Contact Us today to learn more.

I wanted to take this opportunity to share some statistics with you that I found amazing. Today, there are 80 million baby boomers living in the United States, and in 2011, the oldest members of this generation began reaching retirement age, with a full 10,000 people turning 65 every single day! More surprisingly, this trend will continue for the next 19 years.

According to the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHCH), this means that we will quickly reach the day when half of the U.S. population (80 million baby boomers, 45 million Medicare beneficiaries, and 12 million disabled Americans), together with their families, will likely need some form of home care.

Because of this trend, the NAHCH calls the need for all Americans to be able to remain in their homes as they age, the “Last Great Civil Rights,” and we agree. At ASSI, we are dedicated to providing seniors and their families with the home care and adult companionship / daycare services they need to age safely and independently in their own homes. To that end, we have structured our True Freedom Membership Plans to offer a variety of service levels so we can be there for our clients when and where they need us.

I’d like to thank the NAHCH for their leadership in ensuring baby boomers have the freedom to live at home and for their commitment to the home care and hospice industry.

Sincerely,

Bob Doolan
